Look and Feel Library

The Look and Feel Library allows you to choose skins from your organizations library or the Qualtrics library. It can be changed using the dropdown menu in the top right corner of the Look and Feel window. By default, a survey will start on an organization's library, but the Qualtrics library will also be available.

Look and Feel (skins)

The Look and Feel selection can be made and changed by clicking directly on the thumbnail icon in the top left corner of the page. The options available will change according to the library selected in the library dropdown (mentioned above).

For more information on the Mobile Phone Look and Feel Templates and valid question types with those templates, please look at the Mobile Phone Look and Feel Templates area below.

Fonts

You can edit the Font styles of the selected Look and Feel by entering the Fonts section. It allows changing the font and size for the entire survey (top line), or by focusing your edits on the Question Text or Choice Text by selecting the appropriate checkboxes. Basic formatting (bold, underline, italics) can be specified for question text and choices as well.

For similar edits on a specific answer choice (or word or phrase), see the Changing Text Styles page.

Colors

You can edit the color scheme of the selected Look and Feel by entering the Colors section. Click on the color box next to an item to change the color for that particular item. When an item's color has been edited, there will be a circular "X" icon next to the item, which can be clicked to reset the item back to the default color scheme for that item.

A red, diagonal line will be specified over the color box when an item is not used by default (most likely to be seen next to Question Separator). Clicking the color box will allow you to implement the item and control its color.

At any time you can click the "Reset Colors" button to reset back to the default color scheme of the Look and Feel for every item.

General

In the General section, 7ou can edit the Next (>>) and Back (<<) button text on each page of your survey, as well as whether you use a Progress Bar and how many questions are displayed per page. You can also choose whether you want the questions to highlight when the respondent clicks on or in the question, as well as whether you want to display the question separator line or not.

Buttons

Entering text in these text boxes will cause the text displayed on the back/previous button and next button to change. In order for the previous button to change text you must click the back button box at the top of the page.

For help on editing the button text just for a specific page, please see the Customized Button Text page.

Progress Bar

In the drop down you can choose what progress bar is displayed. You can have one of several options.

  • None - no progress bar will be displayed.
  • With Text - Displays 0% and 100% on either side of the progress bar.
  • With Out Text - Does not display any text, including 0% and 100%, around the progress bar.
  • Verbose Text - Displays the 0% and 100% on either side and "Survey Completion" above the progress bar to better explain the progress bar.

To calculate the progress bar we do the following:

  • Calculate all of the possible questions that you can see in the survey.
  • Then as the respondent moves through the survey every question they see or skip adds to their progress.

Advanced

The Advanced section gives you access to the Header and Footer, and lets you enter your own custom CSS. You can provide your own CSS by clicking the Add Custom CSS button and using an editor, or by pasting in the URL to a CSS file you have hosted online.

Headers & Footers

The Header and Footer text boxes are found in the Advanced area of the Look and Feel window. You can add text (and HTML or JavaScript code) into the header or footer of your survey. If you click on the blue Image:here.png text you can access the rich text editor to format text in the header or the footer.

Mobile Phone Look and Feel Templates

When taking a survey using an iPhone or Blackberry, a special Look and Feel template will take over that is better suited to that device. Due to some limitations (potential or otherwise) with the web browser on the device, some question types may not work or may be changed to a similar question type to better represent the question on the device.

iPhone (and iPod Touch)
The web browser in the iPhone and iPod Touch is a full-featured browser (much like on your desktop/laptop), so there are no restricted question types.

NOTE: You might consider not using audio or video in your survey. While iPhones can play many audio and video formats, in many cases the iPhone would need a specific codec or player in order to play the audio or video.
