At Qualtrics we believe in experiences. We want to be sure we provide our employees the best employee experience possible. One way we do this is to offer to pay for an annual ‘Qualtrics Experience’. The employee can decide when/where/how to have this experience and then let us know what they learned. This story is part of a ‘Qualtrics Experience’ blog series showcasing our employees and their ultimate experience.

What did you choose as your Qualtrics Experience?

For my Qualtrics Experience, I went on a hot-air balloon ride with friends. It was awesome to see the town (Heber) and mountains from a new vantage point. We went up 3k feet and the balloon was surprisingly stable. The pilot was an immigrant from Austria who loved Utah and its scenery. The landing was a bit interesting as we almost landed in a canal and we all had to work together to save the balloon from going in the water as it deflated. Amazing experience!

One of our objectives at Qualtrics is to encourage employees to Learn, Lead, and Live. Please explain how your experience contributed to this objective.

On my experience, I was able to enjoy a hot-air balloon ride with some friends and a great pilot. The pilot, an immigrant from Austria, shared his insights on how life was like a balloon ride and sometimes you can’t control all the factors and don’t know where you are going to end up but you can enjoy the view and control what you can.

In the end, we weren’t able to land in the first two expected landing spots so we had to fly a few feet above the ground search for a landing spot. We found one on a small canal service road which was barely big enough. As the balloon was deflating, we all pitched it to make sure it wasn’t going to fall in the water and then we all helped to wrap it up and put it back in the bag. (These balloons are huge and weigh about 800 pounds.)
