When we first spoke to Jamie nearly a year ago, shared with us that her “why” ranged from working in tech and investing her all in Qualtrics, to her enjoyment of skiing and the joy she finds in her family, church, and her advocacy work.
So, has your “why” changed?
All of my answers in my “Why Qualtrics” post still stand. The reasons I joined Qualtrics were:
Right Sized: Big enough that my work gets leverage, but small enough that the individual still has impact. Even though Qualtrics is 5x the size it was when I joined, I still believe it is a place where individuals create their own destiny and create unique value. The more we grow, the more I believe this is more influenced by company culture than by absolute size, and the Qualtrics culture is one where great ideas can (and do!) come from anywhere in the organization.
Amazing Growth: Proven financial outcomes, and a sky’s-the-limit future. When I joined Qualtrics 5 years ago, I couldn’t believe that I had found a company that was both cash flow positive and had unicorn potential. I had lived the “join the startup and burn through the cash” life before, and it was really fun…until the money was gone and we could no longer fund the business. Over the years, Qualtrics has proven over and over again that phenomenal top-line growth and solid financial performance can both be found in the same company.
Leaders Worth Following: Mad respect for the company’s leadership. Candidly, when I joined Qualtrics I wasn’t sure about joining a founder-led company. Would the leadership be weirdly emotional? Would they be stuck in the past and inflexible on future direction? But Ryan, Jared, and the whole Qualtrics leadership team quickly won my respect, and they’ve continued to earn it every day. Serving with a leadership team that’s intensely focused on the long-term success of the company (all in!) has been a real joy.
So how have you become involved in community at Qualtrics?
My Qualtrics experience has definitely evolved from workplace to community over the years. One big element has been with Women’s Leadership Development and the founding of QGroups, our umbrella diversity and inclusion initiative. Being a part of founding these groups has been both challenging and hugely satisfying. It’s been a journey for me to recognize that my voice matters, and I’ve learned over the years that I have both the opportunity and responsibility to share my perspective. And I’ve come to believe that diversity is worth investing in both because it builds stronger organizations and because it’s simply the right thing to do. At Qualtrics I’ve created and enjoyed opportunities to do all this and more – from leading book groups, to speaking on panels, to a ton of listening and learning.
At Qualtrics I’ve found a place where my voice and my perspective help us build better products and a stronger team. To me that’s the very definition of community.
