I’ve wanted to be a writer for as long as I could remember. I was that annoying kid who always knew what she wanted to be when she grew up. My nose was always in a book and a pen was always in my hand. When I graduated from college, a lot of my friends who graduated as English majors got jobs in academia in one way or another and wrote as a hobby. I didn’t want that to be me. I didn’t want my passion and the thing I defined myself by to become only a hobby. I wanted to write full-time, with a purpose and for something I believed in.
So, I started writing as a Proposal Writer for a large company in my hometown of St. Louis, Missouri – where I oftentimes felt like a cog in the machine and that my voice didn’t matter. When Qualtrics first reached out, I stayed up all night researching the Q and immediately knew it was something I had to be a part of. It was exactly what I was looking for – a company that would value me not only as a proposal writer or just as an employee, but as a person. I jumped at the chance to write for a company I could make an impact with. I’d be more than a cog and be allowed to do what I’ve always dreamed I would.
I didn’t think twice about packing up my family and moving across the country for a cutting edge company. One that not only wanted but needed people like me. People who are passionate about what they do and are willing to go all in with something they believe in.
What attracted you to Qualtrics in the first place?
The sense of community with One Team. The way employees are valued.
What was the turning point where you ‘had to have the job’?
When in interviews it became clear that everyone interviewing me wanted me here almost as much as I wanted to be here.
What does your day look like?
Come in, work on my day-to-day work, collaborate with teammates on various projects, hang out with my team and have team meetings or team building adventures.
What is your favorite part of your role?
That I’m allowed to do what I love without being micromanaged. That I get to hang out with awesome people all day and be paid for it.
So, we know you moved to Utah. Can you tell us your story of moving here?
No. Moving here was terrifying! We came through Denver in a blizzard in the middle of January. What should have been a 19-hour drive from St. Louis became a 27-hour drive in the snow and ice, with rams in the middle of the highway! But we made it and it was totally worth it.
Any tips for someone who is considering a role at Qualtrics?
Do not drive here from the midwest in the middle of a blizzard.
What surprised you most about working at Qualtrics?
How nice and open-minded everyone is here. I expected super conservatism, but have yet to experience it.
What made you want to get into Sales Ops?
Sales Ops is where I can put my skills to good use.
What are your aspirations in career/life?
I struggle with this one. I love my job and I worked hard to get here. I’m cool with staying right where I am for the time being.
What is your top #LifeHack?
When all else fails, call my mom. She knows everything.
How have you become involved in community at Qualtrics?
I’ve gone to a couple Social Q group meetings at the Hub and I’m a MOSAIQ member, which is something I’m passionate about being a woman of color.
