Why Qualtrics

Why Qualtrics? – Carly Deck – Research Services Sales Development Representative – Provo, UT

My 'why' is people.

In college, I served as a fellowship leader where my purpose was to provide a space to know people and make them feel known. Because when we feel like we’re connected we can begin to grow. And I love to watch that happen - be a part of that happening. Qualtrics’ major growth spurts occurred - I believe - because people felt connected to the bold vision of the company, to the scrappy people working here, and to the leaders who keep pushing boundaries.

What attracted you to Qualtrics in the first place?

The challenge. It would have been easier to accept a job closer to home (Alabama), with people I know, in a position I knew more about. However, I wanted to grow, to push myself out of my comfort zone. There is no better place to do that than a company experiencing rapid growth. Better yet, a start-up group in that same organization. The team I work with is going through changes each day and the opportunities for advancement as a team and individually are huge. The challenge to learn new things and make an impact on this new team is exciting.

What does your day look like?

There's no set schedule so every day can look a little bit different. A busier day would look something like this: first, come into the office and head straight for the breakfast bar - the coffee is quality. Then, I catch up on some emails, call some universities, and set up meetings to introduce our team and talk about professors' research. Lunch is provided most days so I'll find some friends to grab it together in the gardens. Then, head back upstairs to learn more about the universities we work with and discover more people to talk with. The team usually takes a break a little while later for some soft-serve in The Hub.

Once a week, we have one-on-ones with the team lead to ask questions and get feedback on performance. We have team meetings to share personal and professional goals and updates. Also, we'll have weekly training sessions: we’re constantly trying to improve.

Why Qualtrics

What is your favorite part of your role?

Learning about people's passions. Working with researching professors lends itself to many different conversations. For example, there was one professor who worked with farmers on making their operations more sustainable and bringing communities together in the process.

And the people I work next to, they're pretty great. Everyone is so willing to answer questions or extend a helping hand. There are so many here that are actively trying to make a difference - close experience gaps if you will - in the work of universities we work with and in the environment we work in.

There is a group that saw how sustainability was an issue in the organization and created a team committed to making changes (check out what the Green Team is doing in Dublin!). To see these things happening, be a part of the work, and experience the insane support from management and leaders is the best.

What is your top #LifeHack?

Take chances. Some of the most successful people I've spoken with - including a marketing VP at MGM Grand - got to where they are because they took a chance. They applied for a job they didn't know enough about or weren't the most qualified for, but were given an opportunity and had a gut feeling. And it led to great things.
