About Number Scale Questions
Number scale questions ask the respondent to rate various statements using a consistent number rating scale. This question type enables you to ask respondents to give multiple ratings within one question.
Qtip: This question type is only available for surveys using the New Survey Taking Experience.
Customizing Number Scale Questions
Follow these instructions to add a new question to your survey. Once you’ve added a number scale question, you can customize it with the following options:
Choose the alignment for the statements:
Above: Statements appear above the number scale.
Inline: Statements appear inline with the number scale.
Choose the Number of statements you’d like to include. You can select between 1 and 100 statements.
Enter the Starting value for your number scale. Your starting value may be between -9 and 9.
Select the Number of scale points you’d like for your number scale. You may choose between 2 to 11 scale points.
Qtip: The scale will increment by whole integer values. You cannot customize the increment value (i.e., scale points will always go up by +1).
If desired, you can enable the Add “not applicable option which will add a checkbox below each statement. Respondents can select this option if they do not have a numeric rating to provide. Click on the “Not applicable” text in the question editor to customize it.
Qtip: “Not applicable” answers will be recorded as null (empty) in your dataset. The NA option cannot be recoded or have its variable name changed
If desired, you can enable Add labels which will add extra labels to your scale. You can add between 1 to 3 labels.
Example: Labeling the upper end of your scale with “Strongly Agree” and the lower end with “Strongly Disagree.”
If desired, you can add Response requirements or validation to your question:
Qtip: Other validation types (content validation, etc) are not supported for this question type.
The number scale question supports the following question behavior options:
- Display logic
- Skip logic
- Carry forward statements
- Statement randomization
- Recode values
- Default choices
- JavaScript
Qtip: Other options, like scoring, are not supported for this question.
Now that your question has been configured, you can customize your question and answer choice text.
Data Analysis
Once you’ve collected responses, you can view your recorded responses in the Data & Analysis tab. Each statement of your scale question will have its own column with the numeric value the respondent gave for that statement.
You can analyze your data with the following reporting tools, depending on what’s available in your license:
