This year, however, optimism leveled off, with 49% of employees feeling hopeful or excited about AI’s impact on their work (no change from 2025). This comes despite an increase in usage, with 52% of employees reporting that they use AI at least weekly (up 7pts from 2025).

Security exposure: employees who aren't equipped with the right tools will find their own. A study of 16 countries found that 84% of employees who use generative AI at work have publicly exposed company data using unvetted tools. Forty percent of organizations have already experienced an AI-related privacy breach.
Decision quality: over 40% of employees have observed incorrect AI outputs—yet nearly half report using AI-generated facts or recommendations without human verification. The downstream risk to both operational quality and organizational reputation is serious.
Talent loss: high performers don't wait out a poorly managed transformation. Employees who see AI as a threat to their growth, and don't see the organization investing in their own growth, are among the first to leave.
