About Bar Charts
The bar chart is a classic way to visualize your data. Add many different sources to compare how different people rate the subject on the same question or scoring category.
Standard Variations
Below, all standard variations of the Bar Chart are listed. In the upper-right corner of each chart, you’ll see the icon that corresponds to the graph on the Graph Type menu.

Composite Bar Chart
While it is also a bar chart, the Composite Bar Chart has very different settings from the standard bar chart described on this page. The Composite Bar Chart is the default graph reports generate for you. To learn more, visit the linked support page.
Graph Options
Right click a graph and select Graph Options, or click the graph and then select Graph Options from the toolbar above to get a list of additional options for your graph.
With two exceptions, Bar Charts have the same Graph Options as other general graphs. Visit the linked page for more details.
Use Multi-Colored Bars
Multi-colored bars are added to a bar graph by default when you add data sources that draw from the same question, but different data sources.
Matrix Table questions also tend to use multiple colors automatically.
However, there might be times, such as when you use a Multiple Choice question, that the bars are all the same color.
If you go to Graph Options and select Use Multi-Colored Bars, you can turn these choices different colors.
Goal Line
The Goal Line option allows you to set a benchmark line to the Y axis of your bar graph.
There are three options under Goal Line.
- Goal Line: Choose where on the Y axis the goal line should be set.
- Goal Line Color: Select a color for the goal line. This option doesn’t appear until you add a line.
- Goal Line Label: Add a label to the left of your goal line. This option doesn’t appear until you add a line. To remove an old label, just erase what is written and save.
