How to set a default choice that respondents can de-select?

It seems like when a default choice is already set, it cannot be de-selected. Is it possible to make it so that participants can choose to de-select the default?

I'm trying to recreate an opt-in/opt-out psychology study and in one condition, the choice is pre-selected for them and participants can choose to either continue or de-select the choice if they like. How can I do this in qualtrics?

Hi @nadia_adelina , it sounds like you are using a radio button? If you switch to "Multiple Answers", your respondent will be able to de-select the pre-selected option.

Hi @nadia_adelina,

If you are creating Opt-in / Opt-out functionality then you have to use Single select option question. in that case, if you have already kept default choice then one of them will be selected and you have to select another selection or keep it as it is.

It better to keep default choice off and keep same question as force response, in this case, you will get either of the selection.
