Toby, Field and Account-Based Marketing, on writing his own playbook
I am a builder at heart, and the best way to build new things and grow is to take the team with you on a journey to get to where you need to be collectively. Throughout my career I've always loved building new workstreams and uncovering new ways of sourcing revenue for companies; and I love going about this in creative ways! I don't like executing on an existing playbook, why not write the playbook yourself and with your team?! It's my role to then help inspire the wider team and for us to work together to achieve outstanding growth. That's what I do here at Qualtrics and I look forward to it every single day. What attracted you to Qualtrics in the first place?
The people. When I met everyone and saw how intelligent and passionate they were, I knew this was a place where I could learn and grow my career.
What was the turning point where you knew you had to have the job at Qualtrics?
I read up more on the company's history and where it was headed creating a new business category (Experience Management) - I knew this was a journey I didn't want to miss! There is an inherent value and need for our products at almost every company in the world, this makes the potential for growth enormous. To be at the forefront of category creation, and being the leader of the category is an exciting position to be in as a company. I wanted in on that.
What does your day look like?
Every day is different for me at Qualtrics. But two things happen regularly - 1. I get to meet with my amazing team and we collaborate on how we can go bigger and better. 2. I get to be creative in my job developing new ways and methods of approaching companies to tell them the Qualtrics story and generate new business for us.
What is your favourite part of your role?
Developing new pilots and test & learn programmes, taking learnings from them, and scaling them across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
Any tips for someone who is considering a role at Qualtrics?
Take some time to read up on the Experience Management Category and what Qualtrics is trying to achieve at the heart of each business across customers, employees, brands and products. When you realise the full potential of our product, you will see how far this company, and your future career here will go!
What has surprised you most about working at Qualtrics?
How we're a global company, but work as #oneteam no matter where someone sits. I work with people in Dublin, London, Paris, Munich, Amsterdam, Utah, Seattle - the list goes on... But we all have a common goal and collaborate so closely.
What made you want to get into marketing?
I come from a journalism background - so marketing is a logical move. Here we take Qualtrics' story to the world, and let them know why they should get involved, and work with us.
What are your aspirations in career/life?
To constantly improve myself. I don't set myself target titles or roles, as long as i'm working hard at getting better each day then I'll head in the right direction.
What is your top #LifeHack?
Start your day with your hardest tasks. You get them out of the way quickly and the day only gets better from there!
What’s a favourite moment/memory of your time at Qualtrics so far? Or an impactful moment?
Meeting my colleagues and team members for the first time in person after 18 months of working online only through lockdowns, that was a happy moment for me and a big deal.
What 3 words would you use to describe Qualtrics to someone?
Fast-growing, exciting, ever-evolving
What’s a myth about your type of job that you’d like to bust? Or about working at Qualtrics?
In my role I am often the bridge between sales and marketing teams. At some companies there's a gap between those two teams, but at Qualtrics the collaboration couldn't be closer between sales and marketing - it's so exciting to see.
