Phil, Digital Marketing, talks about crossing the chasm of sales, digital, and marketing

My 'why' is my family and the constant growth we are delivering globally. I have always loved being in a company that dreams 'big' in terms of growth. From a family perspective, my hope is to have as many positive and fun experiences as I can with my wife and our two little people. Qualtrics challenges me hugely but Caroline, our EMEA Marketing leader, is a parent herself and the flexibility of Qualtrics enables me to be present for my family also. I feel that the company genuinely cares about employee well being.

Qualtrics is on a mission to do good in the world. For me, the fact that my kids see me work here - sees us doing community activities for XM Day, or sees the impact our products are making - makes me feel very grateful to work at Qualtrics.

What attracted you to Qualtrics in the first place?

An amazing recruiter approached me and shared the values of the company, its mission, and culture and I was hooked! In the interview process I met some really nice people who almost treated the interview like a workshop. I just enjoyed the process!

Why is it still Qualtrics for you?

Personally, I love building things…. leading, and developing people. Qualtrics supports people and talent at all levels to add value, and that is really important. What makes me want to continue to work here is our ambition. You want to work somewhere where the growth challenges you, where things change, you adapt and grow, and change again! I love that.

What was the turning point where you knew you had to have the job at Qualtrics?

When I had met the team members on the interview loop and interviewed with Caroline Mogford face to face. Caroline was direct, honest, and transparent and I could tell she and the team were just cool, genuine people.

What does your day look like?

On a typical day, we would have a team huddle in the morning to look across ongoing demand generation programmes, assessing their performance, and planning next best actions, followed by a review session with our amazing Sales Development leaders, 1:1 sessions with members of the team and working individual programs I am delivering.

What is your favorite part of your role?

The challenge and the broad scope of problems to be solved at Qualtrics. Our markets are all at various stages of maturity which require distinct strategies and approaches. The most rewarding part of my role though, is my team. I enjoy seeing them grow and own big personal and business growth plans, and how that translates into them loving to work at Qualtrics. That is so important to me.

Any tips for someone who is considering a role at Qualtrics or advice for someone looking to get into a career like yours? Tips for someone in general?

If you’re even half considering changing roles and taking a role here, just back yourself. At Qualtrics you are supported to be your best and you can do it, so apply!!!

One thing that has always helped me grow in any company is to “care”. Simply care about the details, your colleagues, their progress, your manager, and their goals. Expect nothing in return and good things happen. Also, consider being the one who brings positive energy to your team. This positivity is infectious and drives everybody else forward with momentum.

What has surprised you most about working at Qualtrics?

How, despite constant change in the business, the leadership and our teams stay true to our values.

What made you want to get into digital marketing?

I love building and growing things and digital demand generation is just that. It crosses sales, marketing, brand, and technical disciplines and I get such a buzz out of that!

What are your aspirations in career/life?

love leading teams and coaching talent. My hope is to continue to be a driver of international growth at Qualtrics and to continually cross the chasm of sales, digital, and marketing.

What is your top #LifeHack?

Not sure if they are life hacks, but litres of coffee, meditation, a standup desk, and lifting weights really work for me.

What’s a favorite moment/memory of your time at Qualtrics so far? Or an impactful moment?

Seeing members of my team, Amy Meagher, Dave Dungan and Ellen Mullen, progress into \global roles.

What 3 words would you use to describe Qualtrics to someone?

Energetic, Adventurous, Courageous

How do you feel you’ve been able to apply what you studied at school to your career?

At Qualtrics, at every level, we use our craft in a very hands-on way. To me, that is very cool because being so close to the 'doing' helps you drive great strategy. Personally, I really enjoy that.

What's a myth about your type of job that you’d like to bust?

That it is quite technical. It certainly is, but marketing and demand generation roles now require both deep understanding of marketing and demand generation but also the technical skills of marketing operations to be successful.

Qualtrics is growing, and if you're ready to find your "why" at a place like this, you can explore our open opportunities at any time by visiting our career page or by joining our talent community.
