Why Qualtrics

Christian, Technical Recruiting Lead, on a Career of a Lifetime

I love working in recruiting because with every hire I make, I am able to build a new relationship and directly impact an individual’s life (and often their family’s as well) while also contributing to the success of our company. There is nothing more fulfilling than helping someone land their dream job!

When I'm not at work, you can find me spending time with my beautiful wife and our two young children, watching basketball (especially the Utah Jazz and Duke Blue Devils) traveling, eating sushi, serving at my church or binging on Netflix.

What attracted you to Qualtrics in the first place?

I spent my last semester of college doing an HR internship at a small marketing company in Washington D.C. While I was there, a recruiter from Qualtrics reached out to me on LinkedIn to see if I would be interested in a recruiting position here. As a psychology major at BYU, I had used the product several times for class projects but never thought of it as a place to start my career.

The day after I got back from my internship, I came into the office to interview and was immediately sold on the job. I could tell right away how invested senior leadership was in every step of the recruiting/hiring process and I made an immediate connection with the team. It was clear to me that Qualtrics was about to do something really special and I wanted to be part of it. Luckily, I received an offer and joined a few weeks later!

Why are you still here?

I’ve always told myself that if I ever ended up in sales or recruiting, I would only do it for a product or a company that I fully believed in. I can honestly say that six years in, I am more “all-in” than ever! Here are the four main reasons why:

  1. Our leaders have always done the things they say they are going to do and I trust them with my career.
  2. We have built a category-defining product and, as many of our senior leaders who have spent time at other companies before joining Qualtrics have said, we are a “once-in-a-generation” company.
  3. The company culture and excellent benefits have allowed me to have a great work-life balance and build my career while comfortably raising a young family. Benefits include things like fantastic parental leave for new parents, more than enough vacation time, an annual vacation bonus, outstanding health insurance, and 401k matching...etc
  4. Helping the company grow from 250 - 3,500 employees has been an absolute blast and the best part is we feel like we are just getting started. We have a goal to reach 8,000 employees by 2023 and I’m fully invested to help us achieve that goal.

What has surprised you the most about working at Qualtrics?

The high level of autonomy and ownership that is given to all employees in conjunction with the room we are given to make mistakes and grow. Right out of the gate, I was given much more responsibility than I expected. I was also given the space to develop new skills, try new things and learn along the way. This process has repeated itself over and over each time I have stepped into a new role. I have also seen this same process happen to other employees on my team and throughout the company.

Any tips for someone who is considering an opportunity at Qualtrics?

Our hyper-growth has often been compared to a rocketship and my advice is to take any seat on the rocketship you can get, and then buckle-up tight! You may not be in your dream job from day one, but if you work hard, create strong relationships, and are “all-in,” you will be amazed at the doors that will open for you.

What is your favorite part about Qualtrics?

Hands down, it’s the people. We are a bit notorious for having rigid hiring standards, which admittedly makes my job as a recruiter harder, but it also means that I am constantly surrounded by exceptionally talented people.

We also have a “work-hard-play-hard” culture which means really fun quarterly team activities, great company parties, and concerts as part of our annual customer conference! Here is my ranking of the concerts I’ve been able to attend thus far:

  1. Journey
  2. Elton John
  3. Maroon 5
  4. Imagine Dragons
  5. Steven Tyler
