Why Qualtrics

Why Qualtrics – Christian Fontenot – Senior Program Architect – Seattle, WA

We are humans and not robots. Humans are defined by their relationships and common experiences. Robots are defined by the 1’s and 0’s that they are instructed to obey. As a program manager, I’ve shaped my career by providing excellent customer experiences and less on the project delivery methodologies of waterfalls and sprints. At the same time, I have helped my customers to leverage data-informed decisions to achieve ultimate project success. These principles that I’ve practiced for over fifteen years are also core to Qualtrics products and culture. I knew there was no better place for me to spend most of my waking hours.

What was the turning point where you 'had to have the job'?

During my onsite interview loop in Provo, sitting in a corner, fishbowl conference room where Qualtricians buzzed around with activity, the hiring manager sketched on the glass 3 different jobs where I could fit in his organization. The Partner Program Architect role was brand new for Qualtrics, and I would effectively be the first one. Excited by the opportunity to shape this role and make a quick impact, I chose this PPA role and knew that I “had to have the job”.

What surprised you most about working at Qualtrics?

Not only am I working with some of the smartest teammates in my professional career, but it’s also the most collaborative environment. From Q executives to the person sitting next to me in the Seattle office, no one is unapproachable. No question is too small. And everyone is willing to help from answering basic product questions to problem-solving larger customer challenges.

What made you want to get into engineering?

Ever since 3rd grade, I’ve loved math word problems. However, I would always get in trouble for solving problems in 2 steps instead of the 3 steps that the teacher required. This has carried over into my adult, professional life. Each customer and each project provides a new complex problem to solve, and I still obsess over trying to help my customers find the most efficient and effective way to get to success.
