Why Qualtrics

Why Qualtrics – Marisa Stephens – Sales Recruiting Coordinator – Provo

What is your why? How does Qualtrics connect with your why?

My biggest "why" in life is people. Why would I pay for the meal behind me in the drive-thru? Because people will have a smile brought to their faces. Why would I compliment a co-worker on their work? Because people will be validated in their efforts. The list could go on forever, but my "why" has always been and always will be the effect I can have on people. So, why move 1,700 miles across the country to work at a unicorn tech company? Because of the people! The effect I could have on the people in the world by helping them improve their experiences and by working with individuals who are driven, talented, and unique motivates me every day. Qualtrics allows me to improve myself every day, but also fits in with my "why" of getting to positively impact the people around me and that I have yet to meet.

What attracted you to Qualtrics in the first place?

I was attracted to Qualtrics at first for so many different reasons. (They seriously had the coolest t-shirts for one.) . But the biggest factor that made me want to pursue the opportunity of working here was after I learned about 5 For The Fight. Service and philanthropy have always been a huge part of my life and to be able to work for a company which is just trying to be the good in the world inspired me.

You are not originally from Utah. Can you tell us your story of moving here?

I am originally from a small town in Ohio, where my whole entire family still resides. I attended Kent State and 12 days after graduation my Mom, Dad, sister, and brother-in-law loaded up my family minivan and started driving to Utah. We sat three wide in the back seat and drove for three days to complete the 26-hour journey of moving to my new home! The first night we got here and into my apartment, we had no furniture and no stores were open so we all slept on pool rafts and ate pizza straight out of the box. Moving and relocating to Utah was definitely stressful, but also one of the most memorable and fun experiences I have ever had. Now after moving to Utah and being here for 7 months, I can call this place home. I love to be outside and ski and take in the mountains every single day. What's life without a little adventure?

What surprised you most about working at Qualtrics?

The biggest surprise I found when I started working here is how welcoming everyone was. I am entry level employee and I feel like I am treated with the same respect and value as the higher executives. When you walk in the door at Qualtrics to be an employee, you feel this overwhelming sense that you belong here and that you are wanted here. The #OneTeam mentality rings true and is something I am proud to be a part of.
