Why Qualtrics

Why Qualtrics? – Chandler Boy – Research Services Sales Development Representative – Intern – Provo, UT

I do what I do because I'm the head of my family now. Even though it may just be me and my wife, I want to be successful and lead my family to success. I want to be known as a hard worker and embody that value in my family.

Here at Qualtrics, I want to embody this as well. I want to lead by working hard and giving my best effort by doing what needs to be done.

What attracted you to Qualtrics in the first place?

I was at the National Collegiate Sales Competition in Georgia when I came across Qualtrics. I knew someone who had done an internship here and heard so many good things. For example, I loved that so many companies used Qualtrics. It already had a good name and a good reputation in my mind. There weren't any negative comments that I could find on Glassdoor about the culture here which made me want to be a part of it all.

What was the turning point where you 'had to have the job'?

Honestly, it was when I looked to where I wanted to take my career. Going into my senior year, I was figuring out what I needed to do to make my resume the most attractive to any company. The best thing was to do an internship that would give me valuable experience. Qualtrics was the place for that.

What does your day look like?

Usually I get in and start checking emails. Most of the day I'm prospecting and calling. Mining is the name of the game! I'm focused on setting IQMs with professors. I've started running my IQMs - talking to professors and helping them with their research needs.

I get to use my sales skills - skills I've learned here - whether that’s asking the right questions in the meetings, overcoming objections and then being able to push the conversation to a solution. You can't take a "no" personally. You have to focus on coming to a solution and helping the person on the other end of the line understand how we can help.

What is your favorite part of your role?

Taking meetings with professors. It's so gratifying to know we made a difference to help them save time when they realize what we can do with their research. They connect the dots to realize this is something they need.

So you didn’t grow up in Utah - can you tell us your story of moving here?

From Alabama originally, I had no intention of taking an internship out here in Utah. My sales professor pushed me to realize that this would be more valuable to me long-term than staying as a full-time assistant manager at a car dealership. Rather than just thinking of what was happening in the moment, he helped me realize what would benefit me for my future.

Any tips for someone who is considering a role at Qualtrics?

Take it. This internship has helped me so much with sales skills. It's completely revolutionized my understanding of how to write, speak to people, answer questions, etc.

No one micromanages you here at Qualtrics. But there are definitely some things that work better than others and it's your responsibility to ask for help to figure out what those items are so you can be as successful as possible.

What surprised you most about working at Qualtrics?

No micromanagement. I love that there is autonomy in what I do day-to-day. The necessary training is provided and then I have the ability to take hold of the reins and execute in the way I see best fit to get the job done.

What is your top #LifeHack?

Every day you need to do something that gets you out of your comfort zone. This is how you succeed and grow. The things you value most are what you work hardest for. If you're comfortable, you're not growing.

How have you become involved in community at Qualtrics?

I was able to make a ton of connections with the other interns. I feel like I've made friendships for a lifetime which extend outside of work. It's an opportunity to bond with others who are going through the same things as you.

Qualtrics is growing, and if you're ready to find your "why" at a place like this, you can explore our open opportunities at any time by visiting our career page. Looking to discover more reasons "Why Qualtrics"? You can find the whole series here.
