‘Why Qualtrics’ – William O., Sales Development, Dublin

Qualtrics is 5 years old in Europe this year! To celebrate, we’ll be showcasing some of the Qualtrics people who have made Qualtrics EMEA what it is today with stories from those who’ve experienced #QualtricsLife at different stages of our growth in EMEA.

My ‘why’ is all about the association with different people. I love meeting, speaking and working with all kinds of people, with Qualtrics I not only get to work with lots of like-minded people which is great but from a work setting, not knowing the next conversation and the next person’s story is what drives me to keep moving. I’ve found that working at Qualtrics I can still fulfill all of this day in day out.

What attracted you to Qualtrics in the first place?

A man named Dermot Costello was the first person to tell me about it. It came after I sold him a boat, after the sale he invited me to lunch and he explained what he did and where he worked. I could see by how he explained the entire company he was incredibly passionate about Qualtrics and that it brought him a lot of fulfillment — from then on I wanted to be a part of it all.

What is your favourite part of your role?

This one is tough, I think for me the variety of people and tasks I get to do on a daily basis, no day is the same. The autonomy for me to scale and construct my day as I wish allows me to stay focused and relaxed, meaning Il also have time for a game of pool or a quick 15 in a pod.

What surprised you most about working at Qualtrics?

I think the sense of belonging and the team element that came along quickly after joining, I found people to be very welcoming and found myself having people introduce themselves at every opportunity, I really did feel welcome from day one, and thus I try to now make other people feel the same way.

What does your day look like?

A normal day for me starts at about 7:50AM I like to come in and answer emails, more importantly, I get a jump on the queue for the avocados! After breakfast I will make calls till 10:30 AM, I like to get a coffee around then and raid the snack drawer.

From 11-12PM I like to do some personal development and this could be anything from listening to a podcast to shadowing an AE on a call.

After lunch its back on the phones till 3. At this stage I like to get up and take a walk or play some pool, I will finish calling about 5PM where I will then take care of any admin I may have. I’m usually out of the office by 5:30 except on Thursday when I like to pop up to the bar.

Any tips for someone who is considering an opportunity at Qualtrics?

I’d say to come on in and have a look around, speak to people in the role currently. It’s a great way of gathering a good understanding of what to expect.

It can be daunting getting your head around what we do in the beginning – DON’T PANIC this is perfectly normal, it takes time to understand what we are doing and I’m pretty sure everyone goes through this.

Be yourself from the get-go, Qualtrics is somewhere you can be you.
