Why Qualtrics

A Chance to Impact Experience – Sara, XM Scientist, Shares Her Career

My 'why' is to create for a greater purpose. I've had an interesting and varied career, from improviser to clown to Emergency Medicine Doctor to Chief Experience Officer. In all of these roles, the desire to do something that would make life better was the drive. Making people laugh, making people feel cared for and cared about, ultimately improving their personal experience - even if just for a minute.

It was not an easy decision to move away from daily patient care. But I recognized that my drive to create a better experience was what made me happiest.

I was hesitant to apply when I got recruited to Qualtrics. Was this the place where I'd be able to achieve my goal to impact experience in a creative and impactful way? I also wanted to work with a team of people who live the values they expound. The past 9 months have been the best work experience of my life. Yes, my co-workers live, act, and deliver on our TACOS values. Yes, I get to be creative and challenged. And, yes, I have had the chance to impact experiences in ways I never imagined.

What does your day look like?

My days are varied and full. Just the way I like them. I'm used to working in a busy ER so having challenges come fast and furious is the environment I love and work best in. Sometimes I'm working with sales and directly with customers. Other times I'm working with UX to make sure a new offering is appropriate for the industry it is intended to serve.

What is your favorite part of your role?

I love that I can impact so many people. Since COVID started the work that I've done has been so important - helping the healthcare workforce, developing testing and assessment workflows, contact tracing, and health assessments for return to work. The other great part of this has been the chance to work with people from throughout the organization from EX, SLED, engineering, product, and implementation. I love generating new use cases for our platform that can be immediately impactful to an organization or its employees.

What surprised you most about working at Qualtrics?

Values are often touted by companies. This is the first place I've ever worked where I feel the values at work every day. I can see how decisions are made based on our TACOS values. This is true at the leadership level all the way through any individual contributor. It makes my work feel valuable and me feel valued.

Qualtrics is growing, and if you're ready to find your "why" at a place like this, you can explore our open opportunities at any time by visiting our career page or by joining our talent community.

Sara is an alumnus of Northwestern University and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. She started her career with the circus - no, really! She graduated from Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College (1 of the first 100 women to graduate) and spent 1 year in Japan, and then 3 more years traveling the USA, as part of the circus. Sara also studied with Chris Farley at the Second City and was in a rock band that played gigs at House of Blues and Cleveland Rock Hall.
