About Engagement Summary Widgets

The Engagement Summary widget shows the distribution of a single category or several items in a single bar. Instead of being based off an average or an overall score, the Distribution column is calculated based off of the Scale settings. Each color of the scale indicates a different level of favorability, with the percentage on the far right in green indicating the percentage of participants who gave the item a high favorability rating. In addition to overall engagement with a given item, you can also add comparisons to historical data or benchmark standards.

Qtip: When multiple Items are selected for this widget, the overall engagement score is calculated by averaging the individual engagement scores for each Item.

Field Type Compatibility

The Engagement Summary widget is only compatible with the Number Set field type.

Basic Set-Up

Under Source, choose the Employee Engagement or Lifecycle survey to pull data from. By default, there will be only one source, but you can add additional surveys to your list of surveys inside the Dashboard Data. You can select multiple sources at a time.

In the Items field, select the metadata, questions, or categories you wish to pull into the widget.

You can pull in as many items as you want, and instead of breaking into separate rows, the items will aggregate, resulting in a combined engagement score. Because of this, you must be careful which items you select so that they are items you think it’d make sense to combine. Organizing your survey items into categories can make it easier to group items together.

Qtip: The Scorecard widget will show the distribution of categories on separate rows. The Question List widget also separates items by row and can pull in questions and metadata in addition to categories.


You have two visualization types to choose from, which each can be displayed in a compact or non-compact view.

Horizontal Bar: The default option. Engagement scores will be displayed as a horizontally stacked bar with the engagement score as a large number on top.

When Compact View is selected, the visualization will hide the large number on top and any comparisons added.

Circle Visualization: This view switches the engagement score display to a pie-chart style circle with the engagement score in the center. Comparisons will be displayed below the circle.

When Compact View is selected, any comparisons added will be hidden.

Additional Options

  1. Distribution: Choose how many decimal places display on the percentages in the green portion of the scale.
  2. Display Options: Switch between the Show All Percents and the Compact View options described in the section above.
  3. Comparisons: In order to add a comparison to the widget, you will have to ensure that you have at least one benchmark added in your Benchmark Editor or at least one comparison added in your Comparisons section of your dashboard Settings. Once you add a comparison, you can then specify the number of Decimal Places you would like to show, as well as if you would like to display the comparison data as +/- Delta Base Value (displays the difference between your survey data and your comparison data) or as the Base Value (displays the actual value of your comparison data as a percentage). Note than you can add multiple comparisons, if you would like.
