About the Connector Filter

Connector filters enable you to define a filter condition for the job to load only the data that matches the filter. This way you can control which documents get uploaded into XM Discover.

A filter condition is defined in the form of a Boolean expression—that is, an expression that is either true or false when evaluated. An expression can contain fields, functions, constants, and operators outlined on the Building Expressions page.

Qtip: Connector filters are different from source filters. The connector filter is available for every connector and enables you to apply regular XM Discover filters to inbound and outbound data.

Some connectors let you set up source-specific data options. These integrated filters are called source filters. For details, please see Source Filter.

Accessing the Connector Filter

There are several ways you can access the connector filter options for a job:

  • When creating a job: Define a connector filter on the Specify Filter
  • For existing jobs: Access the connector filter options by selecting the Data Filter option from the job’s actions menu. You can then update the connector filter for a job via the Data Filter In this case, the connector filter is applied to all data uploaded via this job moving forward.

Defining the Filter Condition

You can define the connector filter condition on the Specify Filter page when creating a job or via the Data Filter window when updating connector filters for existing jobs.

  1. Select the Apply Connector Filter checkbox.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. In the Connector Filter window that displays, define a Boolean expression in the Expression box.
  4. Once the expression is defined, you need to validate it. Provide a test value for every field used in the expression and click Test.
  5. If the expression is valid, the result of the evaluation (true or false) is displayed in the box next to the “Test” button. If not, you need to adjust the expression so that its syntax is correct.
  6. Click Save to close the Connector Filter window.
  7. Below the condition box, select how this condition should be applied:
    • Included. Upload records for which the condition is true.
    • Skipped. Upload records for which the condition is false.
  8. Save your changes.

Disabling the Connector Filter

If you wish to disable the connector filter applied to a job, access the connector filter options by selecting the Data Filter option from the job’s actions menu. Clear the Apply Connector Filter checkbox and save your changes.
